Elderly Sick Woman Dies After Hearing Sound Of Gunshots
An elderly sick woman, aged 60, allegedly collapsed and died after hearing gunshots which lasted for over 30 minutes and came from Octopus Strike Force, a unit of the Nigeria Police.
The family of the sixty-years-old woman, Mrs Dole Enoch, blamed the strike force for the death of their mother, saying she was hypertensive.
In an interview, son of the deceased, Kelvin Enoch, said the police unit came to Soku Waterfront, Mile 2, Diobu last Sunday and without reason shot sporadically and his mother who was hypertensive allegedly collapsed and died after hearing the gunshots.
He said that the incident was reported at Azikiwe Divisional Police Command and had called on police authority to investigate activities of the strike force and ensure officers found guilty were made to face the law.
A member of local vigilante, Promise Brown, also explained that the strike force came to the waterfront and shot sporadically leading to residents scampering for safety.
He said he was to attend a party when the incident occurred, saying members of the strike force took musical instruments at the party.
He also said that the action of the police was unnecessary as there was no security breach.
An aged woman who spoke on the condition of anonymity also alleged that the strike force had destroyed plantains on a piece of land and had called for justice.
She said the police destroyed her source of living for no just cause.
Our reporter saw that the plantain trees were cut down and residents were still in fear.
Recall that Victoria Obiora, another resident had accused the force of firing shots which had wounded part of her body.
The mother of the victim, Ndidi Obiora, expressed worry over alleged random shooting by the force and residents are calling on police authority to caution personnel of the force to avoid random shooting which could lead to loss of life.
