PHALGA Vows To Deal With Impostors, Criminal Elements
The authorities of Port Harcourt City Local Government Area (PHALGA) says its attention has been drawn to the activities of impostors and criminal elements who terrorize motorists within the local government area.
In a statement signed by Mayor of Port Harcourt, Sir Allwell Ihunda, JP, the council said these persons who pose as members of the Local Government Taskforce, have been extorting money, harassing motorists and impounding their vehicles illegally.
He said the criminals have also converted a part of the Nkpolu Oroworukwo Community Secondary School to a site where they keep the illegally impounded vehicles until the vehicle owners fulfil their reckless financial obligations.
He declared: “The general public is hereby notified that Port Harcourt City Local Government has no working taskforce. Any person or group of persons working in that regard on behalf of the council is a criminal and should be reported to the nearest police station for possible arrest and prosecution”.
The PHALGA boss said the Chief Security Officer of the local government has been directed to immediately release all illegally impounded vehicles to their respective owners and seal up the said premises, adding that all enquiries should be made to the office of the Mayor at the council headquarter at Moscow Road, Port Harcourt.
