Sequel to the death tolls recorded from the state-of-the-art Boeing 737 MAX 8 airplanes in two separate crashes within the space of five months, there have been growing concerns among Nigerians over the safety of lives and property of air passengers, even as a Nigerian carrier, Air Peace continues to calm nerves with assurances of safety despite the ugly incidences.
It would be recalled that, last October 189 lives were lost in a crash involving Boeing 737 MAX 8 in Jarkata, Indonesia. And just on Monday 11th March, 2019, another fatal crash resulting in death of 150 passengers took place in Ethopia.
Reports held that the newly manufactured aircraft nosedived into the ground minutes after takeoff.
According to a review in the Russian Times, Tuesday: “An estimated 200 Boeing aircraft currently ferrying passengers around the world are at risk of experiencing similar deadly malfunctions”.
But, in a statement yesterday, an airline operator, Air Peace, has cleared the air on recent order placed by it for the purchase 10 brand new Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft.
The management acknowledged the fact that: “Air Peace recently placed a firm order for 10 brand new Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft. We are however, yet to take delivery of the aircraft as we are still at the design and configuration stage of the order”.
The statement observed that it has become necessary “in view of the numerous calls and enquiries”.
However, the Air Peace management expressed confidence in Boeing and aviation authorities “to capably and satisfactorily address all issues”.
A statement signed by Chhris Iwarah, Corporate Communications Manager of Air Peace, called on the public to continue to patronize the airline, promising to always act in their best interest.
