Following the footsteps of the Rivers State First Lady, Her Excellency, Justice Eberechi Suzzette Wike, the Chairperson of Oyigbo Local Government Area, Mrs. Chinwe Oforji has promised to impact positively on the lives of the less privileged in the society.
Speaking during the Oyigbo Council Children Christmas Party, she made it clear that the period was that of exhibition of love, exchange of gifts items as well as sharing and having fun together.
Mrs. Oforji used the opportunity to appeal to parents and guardians to always show equal love and care to their children/wards alike.
“Scold them gently and direct them properly as leaders of tomorrow,” she declared.
The children’s party was laced with comedy, music, riddles and jokes. They were later to be entertained with assorted foods and drinks.
Mr. Santa Clause, otherwise known as “Father Christmas”, was invited and distributed gift items to the excited children.
In a similar development, the council first lady and her entourage, which included her mother-in-law Lady Blessing Oforji (herself a former first lady of the council), paid courtesy visit to the Holy Trinity Orphanage/Motherless & Care Home, Obeama Asa, Rivers State.
Apart from the gift items and cash presented to the poor inmates, Mrs. Oforji also used the opportunity to celebrate her daughter’s (Miss Godiver Oforji) third birthday anniversary with the children.
According to the first lady, “I am used to coming around for them, indeed in one of my visits to them their prayers for me actually blessed me with this baby hence, the convenants with them”, she stated.
She further promised to do all within her power to ensure that her husband, the council boss include the Home in the Council’s budget.
The Administrator/Guardian of the Home, Rev. Sis Mary Ann-Nwokedi, thanked the first family for remembering the less privileged in the society, adding that they will never cease to pray for their success.
She used the opportunity to appeal to public spirited individuals and organizations to always remember them in whatever support they can as they depend on the support and goodwill of the people of God.
“Sometimes I beg for farmland where we farm to get our daily bread but I know that God who brought them in this world would sustain them,” she prayed.
When asked the inputs of the St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Obeama, Rev. Sis Nwokedi said the church do little or nothing for their upkeep, and that the children must survived.
On how they get the children, she said some young mothers out of suffering either brought them by themselves or abandon them for a good Nigerian to bring them.
“In other cases, the inmates who are lunatic are also directed to us for assistance.
