Fathers’ Day: ‘Help Children Realize Potentials’

As the world celebrated the 2019 Fathers’ Day, men folks have been charged to be more committed to taking responsibility in helping their children realize their potentials, as this would help them to work in line with their purpose for creation.

This was contained in a charge handed down the congregation at Rhema Chapel International Churches, Port Harcourt by the President of men’s fellowship, Elder Steve Olaniyi.

According to him, God has given man the needed resources to maximize his potentials. He cited Genesis 1:26, stressing that the dominion given by God will help man to succeed in his family life and other endeavours, calling on men to use the occasion of the Fathers’ Day celebration to lead children in the right direction. He argued that no one was born into the world without potentials. Elder Olaniyi noted that the knowledge of God will bring about revelation of the future ahead of individuals.

He stated that God has endowed the world with vast resources saying all that would be required is for individuals to access this through the Word of God. He called on fathers to lead their families in the way of the Lord. The Elder pointed out  the knowledge required to achieve uncommon feats is available to both believers and the unbelievers, but he lamented that, more than  Christians, unbelievers were able to attain successes in divers areas of human endearvours. He said that the world’s richest were not necessarily Christians yet they excel led more.

He lamented how for too long Christians folded their hands and expected God to perform miracles, adding that whatever a man will possess based on God’s provision will require the cooperation of man with God.

He testified about how he started realizing his potentials in life by deciding to serve God and sponsor the gospel.

He advised fathers to be concerned about the welfare of their families.

On how to help children  realize potentials, the men’s fellowship president advised that fathers should look out for what the children are passionate about and not force  the younger ones to make academic and  career decisions   outside  their personal interest. Quoting the scriptures, he said that ”the gift of a man makes room for him.”

He cited an example of a family in which a father compelled his son to pick a career based of selfish interest. “I tell you that the father had his way by making sure that his son studied medical sciences, but after graduation, the son had a meeting with the father in which he handed over his medical certificate to the father, informing him that he was through with his choice and ready to pursue his own career interest. This is after the son in question had spent seven years studying medicine at the university”.

The church elder defined potentials as latent abilities possessed by somebody which he was yet to apply. He emphasized the need for fathers to be determined to help build up the children in a proper way.

The Fathers’ day celebration witnessed choreography display, drama presentation bymen, among other highpoints of the event. The celebration ended with couples get together put in place by organizers of the Fathers’ Day celebration
