The incident which occurred at Agudama, D-Line in Port Harcourt was a spectacle to behold as residents of the area close to the railway crossing trooped out in their numbers, including concerned passers-by, in the early hours of Monday to rescue a girl (name withheld), who allegedly made away with her aunt’s salary for the month of April, 2019.

An eyewitness stated that a lady who looked furious to many was seen tying wrapper around her body and pursuing a target nobody noticed immediately. According to Rebecca Agwu, an eye witness ”Suddenly she (the pursuer) brought out a sharp knife and, in her desperation, ran to catch up with her niece who was on her way to school . You know, nobody was able to go near her at first because she vowed to kill somebody that time, so people saw her and ran away. Not until she spotted her young niece and increased her pursuit of her and for fear of the unknown, people shouted and pleaded with her not to take the law into her hands.”

Rebecca added that the lady bearing knife (name withheld) was unrelenting and would have almost used the knife on her victim who noticed and ran ahead, but for a man referred to as Ade, who came to the rescue by hitting the woman hard with a stick from behind, the matter would have gone beyond ordinary.  According to the eyewitness, the courageous move by Ade (resident of the area) made the pursuer to drop the knife in her hands immediately.

Narrating her story as people gathered around her, she (the main actor) stated that the girl she referred to as her niece had been stealing things from her lately and despite repeated warnings she kept committing one atrocity or the other. According to her: “Very early this morning she told me she was ready for school and I got curious because she use to go late most times, so I told her to wait I needed to get something inside the room. Before I returned, she ran out of the house, even after searching for my April salary in an envelope, where I found that about N9,000 was missing. I knew she took the money and I decided to teach her an unforgettable lesson today.”

Meanwhile, efforts to investigate her niece proved abortive as concerned acquaintances around told National Network that the matter would be resolved within the family.  So, it was not clear if the accused niece  pocketed the missing nine thousand naira or hid the amount in her school bag as at the time of filing this report.

But Ade, who came to the rescue said he needed to do something drastic to avert danger because the affected aunt was ready for a kill. He also confirmed that the accused girl had always put pressure on the aunt through her antics in the past.
