NANS To Buhari: Increase Salaries Of Police Officers

The National Association of Nigerian Students has appealed to President, Muhammadu Buhari to increase the salary of officers of the Nigeria Police Force.

The student body also appealed to the President to ensure a deliberate housing policy that covers all cadres of officers of the Force.

NANS President, Danielson Akpan, made the appeal during a briefing in Abuja while reacting to the arrest of his Vice-President, Chidi Ilogede by officers of the Police in Enugu.

He said Ilogede was arrested by officers of the Enugu Command for issuing a seven-day ultimatum to management of Madonna University who had six of its students arrested for being involved in alleged cybercrime for six months.

Akpan said NANS had a meeting with the representatives of the university and the Nigeria Police Force on how to resolve the issue.

He said the student body has resolved all issues concerning the arrest of his VP and subsequent charges dropped by the university.

“The prompt response and intervention of the IGP Abubakar Adamu on this very issue has once again re-affirmed our belief in an efficient police architecture that is responsive, professional and diligent in discharging effective policing anchored on public driven service and institutional engagement.

“We commend the IGP for the new approach he has introduced since assumption of office. We are satisfied with efforts at stemming crime, especially kidnapping, robbery and cybercrime. We hope this vigour continues.

“Security is key to national development and prosperity of any nation. There’s no gainsaying the fact that the Nigeria Police Force deserves the support to adequately and effectively ensure safety of lives and citizen, reduce crime and ensure professionalism.

“We appeal very strongly to our dear President, Muhammadu Buhari to pay greater attention to the Nigeria Police Force by increasing the salaries of men and officers of the force.

“We also appeal to the President to ensure a deliberate housing policy that covers all cadres of Force. Motivation of staff and their regular promotion are essential in delivering effective and professional driven police force and this must be considered,” he said.
