Row As Bus Driver, Conductor Contest Superiority
It was a drama of absurd when a commercial bus driver and his conductor decided to test who has control over the business, creating frenzy and some humour in which commuters resorted to placating the driver.
Our reporter who witnessed the incident reports that a commercial bus which commenced operation around Obi Wali junction in Rumuigbo, (Obio/Akpor local government area) had a hitch-free movement after taking off with a good number of passengers. But in an attempt to ensure the bus had a full load of passengers, the bus driver decided to pick more commuters at the popular AP filling Station,(now Fort Oil), not minding the presence of the officers of taskforce on illegal motor parks and street trading.
The negligence on the part of the bus driver who appeared to have irked the bus conductor who shouted out at him, warning of the implications of the latter’s action. At this point , the driver asserted himself by raining curses on his conductor who equally warmed up to him by threatening to leave the responsibility of a bus conductor.
As the situation became almost uncontrollable, concerned passengers in the bus waded into the matter to douse the tense atmosphere already created. And just as the recalcitrant conductor failed to listen, an enraged driver brought the commercial bus to a halt, causing some passengers to alight from the bus, while others who remained had expressed disappointment over the way and manner the driver and his conductor wasted their time, making the journey of less than 30 minutes to take up to an hour.
But to the chagrin of many in the bus, their long argument soon gave way to a friendly exchange of banters that saw the passengers as being the worst hit in all that happened.
