Serial Killer, Gracious David-West Pleads Guilty To Murder Charges

Accused serial killer, Gracious David West, has pleaded guilty to nine charges of murder against him before Justice Adolphus Enebeli  of Port-Harcourt High Court.

The accused serial killer did not however plead guilty to one count charge of attempted murder.

The presiding judge of the court ordered that David West be remanded in custody.

Justice Enebeli said the suspect was still not guilty in the eyes of the law saying there was need for more evidence to prove the case.

When asked in an interview what the judge meant when he said the accused was still not guilty in spite of the plea, counsel to the accused serial killer, Barrister Vincent Chukwu, said as a capital offence whether the accused committed the offence or not, it’s required that the prosecution would prove their case. He said the defence were waiting for the prosecuting team.

Meanwhile, Rivers State government has taken over the prosecution of the case from the Rivers State Police Command.

This came after a state senior lawyer, Barrister Chidi Ekeh, filed an application to take over the case from the Rivers State Police Command. The application was not opposed by lawyer to Rivers State Police Command.

Presiding judge, Justice Enebeli, ruled in favour of the state government to take over the case.

The state senior lawyer said Rivers State government took over the case from the police because it’s the state government’s right to protect citizens of the state.

Justice Enebeli adjourned the case to November 18, 21, 27, 29 and December 4 for accelerated hearing.
