In a bid to cushion the effect of the “sit-at-home” order occasioned by the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic, the Amayanabo of ancient Ele Kingdom in Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area, King Felix Tamunoseipiriala Okuru and his Divisional Council of Chiefs have presented some palliatives to the people of the community.
Speaking while presenting the food items, facemasks and hand sanitizers to the residents at the Ele Community Town Square, King Tamunoseipriala Okuru, Apina VII advised the people to jealously observe all precautionary measures by the State Government and Health Officers as it is for their safety.
The Ele monarch further educated the people on the need to stay alive to see tomorrow and enjoined them to observe social distancing and other measures to ensure that the community is COVID-19 free as they are not ready to lose anybody.
The traditional ruler said that the palliative was their little gesture to ameliorate the suffering of the people in this era of coronavirus pandemic, charging them to remain peaceful and prayerful, hoping the pandemic would soon be a thing of the past.
He commended governor of the State, Chief Nyesom Wike for his proactive actions taken to contain the spread of the virus, describing him as a leader that has the interest of the people at heart, and called for all hands to be on deck in the fight against COVID-19 in the State.
In a brief lecture, a senior staff of University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital, and Vice Chairman of Ele Divisional Council of Chiefs, Chief Joseph Oloye Buloabere, explained what COVID-19 is all about, its preventions and advised the people to observe all preventive measures put in place, adding that the traditional ruler and the Ele Divisional Council of Chiefs are concerned about their well-being at this time by providing food items to alleviate their suffering.
In a related interview, Chief Tamunosiki Tiene Peritiene, Madam Daisy Samuel and Richmond Sekibo who is the youth Leader thanked God for the courage and wisdom of their King and his Council of Chiefs for deeming it fit to remember their subjects at this critical period of “Lockdown” with some palliatives, describing the Amanyanabo as a good and caring father that has passion and love for the people, and assured of their total support, unity and peaceful disposition for a successful and remarkable reign.
They said the palliative will go a long way in ameliorating the hardship being faced by both the indigenes and non-indigenes residing and doing business in the area while still awaiting that of the government and further prayed God to protect and bless them to do more.
Earlier, the chairman of the Palliative Committee, Hon. Fiberesima Minaseichinbo said King Felix Tamunoseipiriala Okuru and his Divisional Council of Chiefs had graciously provided the palliative for each household in the community as a way of supporting the Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike on his proactive measures to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the state.
The food items that were distributed include garri, rice, beans, yams, vegetable oil among others.
