A man simply identified as Christopher in his late 20s has been detained at Okporo Police Station, Rumuodara for allegedly raping a year 10 year old girl.
Narrating the incident to our reporter,the mother of the rape victim,simply identified as Mrs Chidinma explained that the suspect is a friend to her son and comes to their house regularly.
She stated that she saw the pant of her daughter stained with blood two days ago. Mrs Chindinma said “when I asked my daughter, she told me that the brother’s friend did use his stick inside her private part and told her not to tell anybody or she will die”.
Mrs Chidinma explained that the suspect fled the house when she confronted him. She disclosed that the private part of her daugther is swollen and bruises all over.
The President of Rumuodara Youth Association, Frank Weli in a Telephone interview with our reporter disclosed that the Youth of the community swung into the action when they heard the incident. Mr Weli said the Youth apprehended the suspect in his hideout and handed him over to the Police.
The spokesperson of Rivers State Police command,Deputy Superintendent of Police(DSP),Nnamdi Omoni did not respond to text messages sent to his mobile line neither did he respond to several calls put across to him on enquiry into the incident.
However, a Senior Police Officer confirmed the incident to our reporter while adding that investigation is ongoing.
Our correspondent reports that the suspect is presently detained at Okporo Police Station.
