Suspected Cultists Strike In Ogoni Community
It was a black Sunday in Wiiyaakara, Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State as gunmen suspected to be cultists opened fire on mourners in a burial ceremony leading to the death of two persons while others sustained life threatening injuries.
Community sources disclosed that one Dorcas Nwikpo – a retired government nurse, was among the casualties. The source disclosed that Dorcas died instantly while the second person died on the way to the hospital.
Some natives who pleaded anonymity told our reporter that some of the victims are in the hospital receiving treatment.
The natives revealed that the burial ceremony ended abruptly as people fled the area.
We also gathered that one suspect was arrested by officers of Bori Police Division in connection with the killing.
The spokesperson of Rivers State Police Command SP Nnamdi Omoni in a text message confirmed the incident to our reporter but did not give further details.
As at press time it was gathered that normalcy has returned to the community as police has intensified patrol in the area.
It would be recalled that gunmen suspected to be cultists reportedly killed nine persons in Luebe community in Khana Local Government Area penultimate Sunday.
The Member Representing Khana/Gokana Federal Constituency in the federal House of Representative, Rt Hon Dumnamene Dekor, had charged the security agencies to bring the perpetrators of the dastard act to book.
