NARD STRIKE: Health Commissioner Hints Why Rivers Is Not Part Of Action

The Rivers State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Chike Princewill, said that the reason why resident doctors in the state did not join the strike like their counterparts in other parts of the country was because of the efforts of Governor Nyesom Wike in the health sector.

He dropped the hint during a courtesy visit by members of Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) Rivers State Chapter in his office.

He called on journalists  to exercise their mandate as the fourth estate of the realm by reporting the ills in the society while amplifying good government policies.

He noted in dismay that medical facilities in the country are in bad state and nobody is talking about it rather those at the helm of affairs are traveling abroad for medical care instead equipping the medical facilities for proper health care delivery for all Nigerians.

He expressed disappointment that the chemist , laboratory scientists, pharmacists have all hijacked the work of professional doctors by converting their  stores to hospitals at the same time, carrying out tests and prescribing drugs to patients which is meant to be done by the professional doctors and wondered why journalists have not done anything in that regard.

The Hon commissioner who lauded the efforts of the Rivers State Governor, Bar. Nyesom Wike in the health sector enjoined members of NAWOJ to promote all the projects that the state government has embarked on since 2015 till date, and expressed readiness of the State Ministry of Health  to partner with NAWOJ for proper dissemination of information on Health issues for the benefits of the society.

Speaking earlier, the Chairperson of NAWOJ, Rivers State Chapter, Mrs Susan Serekara-Nwikhana stated that the executive members of the association were in his office to partner with the Ministry on issues affecting the health of women and girls in the society.
