RSU Multiple Campuses: Consider Ogoni Too, Royal Father Appeals To Wike

One of the respected royal fathers in Rivers State, HRH King (Dr) Taador N. Tornwee IV of Bua Boue Kingdom in Khana Local Government Area has appealed to the state governor, Barr. Nyesom Ezenwo Wike to consider to locate one of the Rivers State University Campuses to the Ogoni area.

He was speaking with newsmen during the commissioning of the Rumuogba flyovers last week in Port Harcourt.

He equally appealed to the Federal Government to remember to also fulfil its promise of converting the Ken Saro Wiwa Polytechnics to Federal University of Environment, adding that the importance of education in the development of any state cannot be over emphasized.

While commending the Wike administration for the massive roads and infrastructural development in the state he noted, “it is only necessary to shift attention to the educational sector in the interest of the future generations”.

Mene Tornwee IV also advised the governor to consider the agricultural sector in order to tackle food security in the country.

According to him, “Governor Wike from all indications is determined to return Port Harcourt to its prestigious garden city status and it is our collective duty to offer him maximum support and sound advice to achieve his New Vision developmental plans in all sectors”, he said. On the advantages of the numerous flyovers initiated, completed and commissioned by the administration, the monarch said it is a good development as it will not only improve the esthetic environment of the state but will ease traffic jam and by so doing save important man hour that would have been lost.

He appealed to every stakeholders in the state to help in ensuring that the facilities are maintained, pointing out that with the construction giant, Julius Berger Plc as the major contractor used by the Rivers State Government, it would take long years for the roads to start wearing out, as according to him “It is true, the company is costly, but their projects last for a very long time”.

The monarch also appealed to the governor to embark on what he called the Human Capital Development/ empowerment of the youths, granting of soft loans to those who are ready to trade as well as the establishment of skill acquisition centres to enable     interested public members to be self-employed and sustain their families.

He also used the opportunity to appeal that traditional rulers should be considered for upgrading especially where vacancies exist for the institution to move forward.
