Wike Urges FG To Complete East-West Road
The governor of Rivers State, Chief Nyesom Wike, has asked federal government to complete East-West Road which he said is in bad state.
He urged the federal government to also tackle insecurity and protect lives and property.
The governor spoke at the commissioning of Community Secondary School, Eteo in Eleme Local Government.
He urged the government to fulfil promises made and avoid making excuses.
Governor Wike said: “One thing I’ve known about politicians is that during time for campaigns they come to people, they make people promises and at the end of the day people will make sacrifice and vote them into office and after voting them into office, all you hear excuses, excuses, excuses but to the glory of God that is not the same thing with the Peoples Democratic Party”.
He further said: “I urge the federal government under the All Progressives Congress to please fulfil promises they made to Nigerians and fulfil promises made to Rivers State. It’s unfortunate, look at the East-West Road, a part of which has almost collapsed. The money comes from where, the money comes from us.
“Let me call the Honourable Minister of Niger Delta, Godswill Akpabio, to please, who has always said that the federal government under the Buhari administration had done the people of Niger Delta a very good deed, to please come and see this and also add it as part of the good deed we have had from them. Come and see the East-West road in Eleme and see whether that is part of the good deed you have given to the people of Niger Delta”.
He said he kept his promises during campaign.
The governor said students of the school were learning in an unconducive environment saying the reconstructed school would improve learning.
He said his government did not focus only on roads but on also education and health and commended the contractor for job well done.
He said the school management and community should take care of the school.
He said politics should attract development saying his government has brought development.
He said the people of the area have not benefitted from All Progressives Congress-led federal government saying the appointment of their son as ambassador did not benefit them.
The governor said: “PDP makes promises, PDP fulfils their own promises. The APC government told us when they come to government they will make sure that there will be employment. Is there employment?
“They were telling us that when they come to government all the seaports will work. Is it working? We have a minister, we have NPA abd we have Onne and instead of them to make it work optimally, they are going to other area”.
He also said people were tired of promises not fulfilled.
He said the state would not support secessionist move saying it supports unity of the country but said it should have fair share in federal arrangement.
