PH Residents Share Experiences, Proffer Solution To Robberies On Taxi
Residents of Port-Harcourt have shared their experiences on how they were robbed while commuting on taxi and proffered solution to robberies on taxi.
People have been robbed while commuting on taxi and have lost phones as well as cash.
Speaking in a radio programme participants said state government should profile all commercial taxi drivers and ensure taxis were in Rivers State colour.
Taxis are popular means of transportation in Port-Harcourt, Rivers State capital and as well as buses people take taxis to get to different parts of the metropolis and sometimes to places nearer home after work.
A participant on the programme recalled how he was robbed of his phone allegedly by two ladies.
Another participant simply named Blessed had tasked the government to work with security agencies and fight crime on the streets.
He said that the government should ensure that there would be discipline to reduce crime in the metropolis.
He also asked security agents to be professional in the discharge of their duties.
Another caller Barisi Giadom alleged robberies on taxis were common because there was insecurity also alleging security agents on the roads were also not doing their job.
He alleged security was porous saying people carry out robberies inside taxis and pick pocket because there was no security.
Another participant said that all commercial taxis should be registered with government to check the crime.
He said that private taxis should be prevented from plying the roads.
A participant named Zion who was also on the programme aired on Nigeria Info 92.3 FM said that those who board a taxi should be watchful while inside a taxi.
He said: “When we are boarding a taxi we should not be relaxed. Don’t be carried away by conversation. Be conscious”.
Another participant named Alozie said that robberies inside taxis were condemnable.
He recalled how he was once robbed and had reported to a police station but said he was told to be careful by an officer once inside a taxi.
He said the police should ensure justice would be done once arrests were made.
He also said people should be careful once entering a taxi.
Alozie said: “If you enter taxi be very conscious and look at people inside the taxi and monitor their body language”.
He said that people should be careful and avoid being victims of robbery inside taxi.
