Rivers NUJ Warns Okonkwo, Ihunwo To Stop Imposing Selves On Council

The Rivers State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has reacted over a statement issued by Amaechi Okonkwo of the Correspondents Chapel and the immediate past Secretary of RSTV Chapel, Justice Ihunwo following the current impasse at the Council.

The Council in a statement jointly signed by Stan ley Job Stanley and Ike Wigodo, Chairman and Secretary respectively, the Council said the press release by Amaechi Okonkwo and Justice Ihunwo cannot be said to be the position of the Rivers State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) whose leadership has since distanced itself from the charade that took place ion Umuahia, Abia State in the name of an election.

It emphasized that Okonkwo and Ihunwo lack the legitimacy to issue a statement on behalf of the NUJ, Rivers State Council, as the only authority known and recognized to do so are Chairman and Secretary of the state council, comrades Stanley Job Stanley and Ike Wigodo respectively.

“For the umpteenth time, we warn Okonkwo and Ihunwo to desist from imposing themselves on the council or parading themselves as the leaders of the state council”, it said.

The statement recalled that the Rivers State Council of NUJ, at its last Congress meeting, dissociated itself from a Caretaker Committee, adding that Okonkwo and Ihunwo have continued to hang on to the leadership of this contraption which does not exist in the council.
