The President, Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, has approved the re-appointment of Dr. Emmanuel Ikenyiri, KSC, as Provost of Federal College of Education (Technical), Omoku, Rivers State for a second tenure of four (4) years.
The re-appointment letter dated 9th May, 2022 with reference No. FME/HME/VOL 1/239 and duly signed by the Honourable Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu is with effect from 15th May, 2022.
The Honourable Minister on behalf of the President congratulated Dr. Emmanuel Ikenyiri on his re-appointment and wished him fruitful tenure in office.
Dr. Emmanuel Ikenyiri an indigene of Obrikom Community in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area (ONELGA) of Rivers State and the 7th Provost/Chief Executive Officer of the institution established in 1988 was first appointed in May 2018 by the Federal Government.
He joined the services of the College in 1999 and rose to the rank Chief Lecturer in year 2011 and had served the College in various capacities which includes member, College Management and Academic Board, Head of Department Educational Psychology, Coordinator Guidance and Counselling Unit, Coordinator Students Industrial Works Experience (SIWES), Dean, School of Education and Director, Directorate of Quality Assurance among other standing and Adhoc committees.
He obtained NCE 1984 in Rivers State College of Education Port Harcourt, B.Ed 1991, M.Ed 1995 and Ph.D 2007 all in University of Port Harcourt.
On community services, he was the Secretary Obrikom Students Union 1979 – 1980 and later served as President of the Union from 1980 – 1983, President, Obrikom Graduates Association 1994 – 2000, Chairman, Obrikom Community Development Committee (CDC) 2001 – 2003 and at the same period doubled as Chairman, Usomini Group Community Development Committee. He also served as Member, Rivers State Omoku Gas Turbine Monitoring and Implementation Committee 2002 – 2004, Secretary, Obrikom Committee of Eminent Persons and Professionals 2011, Deputy Chancellor, Obrikom Unity Club (OUC) 2010 – 2013 and thereafter he was elected the Chancellor of Club from 2013 – 2016.
Dr. Ikenyiri who belongs to many professional bodies including, Colleges of Education Academic Union (COEASU), Nigerian Society for Educational Psychologists, Counselling Association of Nigeria, Nigerian Primary and Teacher Education Association, Teachers Registration Council of Nigerian (TRCN) among others. Has over forty (40) publications in National and International Academic Journals, ten (10) Conference Papers and also attended over fifty (50) Conferences and Workshops, both within and outside Nigeria.
Dr. (Sir) Emmanuel Ikenyiri’s leadership quality and humility, fear of God and style has kept attracting many recognitions, honours and awards to him and the College since his accession to the office as the Chief Executive Officer of the Institution among the awards bestowed on him includes Pillar of Nation Building Award by the Nation Strategic Resource Institute, Port Harcourt, Merit Award of Fellowship Institute, Port Harcourt, Merit Award for Exceptional Administrative Skills by COEASU FCE(T) Omoku Chapter, Award of Fellowship Institute of Policy Management and Development, Award of ICON of Nation Building in Nigeria by African Students Union Parliament, Award of Fellowship in Appreciation of Outstanding Prowess in Administrative Matters and as a professional by ICA, the Best Performing Provost in the South-South Geo Political Zone in Nigeria by the Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU), South-South Zone and of recent as Sir Abubakar Tafawa Belewa Platinum Award (GARKUWA MATASAN NIJERIYA) by Northern Youth Progressive Forum (NYPF) among others.
Meanwhile, Dr. Emmanuel Ikenyiri, KSC, has promised more better days ahead for staff and students of Federal College of Education (Technical) Omoku, Rivers State during his 2nd tenure.
The Provost who spoke while addressing a congregation of jubilant Management and staff of the College on Tuesday 17th May, 2022 to kick-start his 2nd tenure in office noted the College will continue to witness more tremendous development in terms of infrastructure, expansion of its academic programmes, staff and students welfares, peace, unity and progress of the institution and solicited for cooperation from all.
The highly elated Provost who specially thanked God Almighty, President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, the Hon. Education Ministers, Members of the College Governing Council led by an Elder statesman, Alhaji Umaru Aliyu, Management, staff students and other well meaning Nigerians for his re-appointment promised not to disappoint them.
All those who spoke at the meeting such as the representative of the College Governing Council ……………, the Deputy Provost, Dr. M.M.M. Ekpa, the Registrar, Dr. Godpower Ahiakwo, the Chairman, Committee of Deans, Diepriye Fiberesima, the College branch Chairman of COEASU, SSUCOEN, and NASU Comrades Richard Onuotu, Ekine Pakaye and Ireju Nwokocha respectively congratulated the Provost on his re-appointment which they described as well deserved and promised to continue to support him as to move the College more forward.
Dr. Emmanuel Ikenyiri a knight of Saint Christopher Anglican Communion, is happily married with children and grand children.
