Ahead Of April 17 LG Election: RSIEC, Party Candidates, Security Agencies Parley Over Hitch-Free Polls

The Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, CP Eboka Friday has met with candidates of the 17 political parties ahead of April 17,2021 Local Government elections in Rivers state with emphasis on peaceful and violence free elections.

CP Eboka enjoined the candidates to see themselves as brothers and sisters and encourage efforts geared towards violence free and credible elections.

The Police Commissioner assured that the Police and other sister agencies will be neutral and professional in the discharge of their duty while providing adequate security on election day.

The Rivers Police Boss who warned that anybody found with weapons such as knives, guns and other dangerous weapons will be arrested and dealt with in accordance to the law, added that restrictions of movement will be strictly enforced.

In his contribution the representative of Director of State Security, said the intelligence estimate at their disposal indicates the election will be peaceful.

He urged the candidates to ensure the intelligence estimate for peaceful elections by DSS is a reality.

Meanwhile the Chairman of Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) Justice George Omeriji(Rtd) who was represented by Dr. Iyeneomie Tamunobereton-ai reiterated the commission’s resolve for a fair, free transparent and credible elections.

Different political party candidates who spoke at the meeting called for a level playing ground by RSIEC and the security agencies.
