Police Investigate Shooting Of Driver In Obele

The Rivers State Police Command says it will investigate the killing of one Uchechi Anele, a driver and native of Obele community in Emohua Local Government Area who was shot dead by gunmen last week Thursday.

The acting spokesperson for the Rivers State Police command, DSP Grace Iringe Koko made the disclosure to Journalists Port Harcourt.

Elder brother to the deceased, Emmanuel Anele in a telephone interview, disclosed that his younger brother went to the village to pack some of his belongings since natives have deserted the village when gunmen shot him dead.

Mr Emmanuel said when he got the information, he went and made a formal complaint to Rumuji Police Division and was given Police escort who accompanied him to the community to evacuate the corpse of his brother to the mortuary.

He however, dismissed insinuations that his late brother, Uchechi Anele was a cultist.

Mr Anele said the deceased is married with children and gainfully employed and has no record of crime.

Recall that gunmen alleged to be members of a vigilant burnt down the house and palace of Chief, Eze Israel Anele in Obele community on May 8, and houses of perceived enemies which resulted to deserting of the village by natives.

On April 10, 2022 gunmen suspected to be cultists shot dead a leader of local vigilant known as Anayo and another member of the group.

On April 1, 2022, One Mr Ibari and another male native was shot dead by gunmen in Obele community.

 On March 20, 2022, Awuse, a leader of local vigilant group was also shot dead by gunmen in Obele Community.

On 5th March, 2022, one Darlington Worehua, a soldier serving at Niger State and a native of Obele was shot dead in Obele Community.
