Gunmen Kidnap Traditional Ruler In Akuku-Toru LGA
Gunmen suspected to be Kidnappers over the weekend kidnapped the Chairman of Abissa Council of Chiefs, High Chief Mattew Opoto. Chief Opoto was said to have been abducted on his way to his community on the waterways.
The chiefs, elders, and women including youths from Abissa in Akuku-Toru Local Government Area are appealing to the kidnappers to release him unconditionally.
One of the natives from the area, Minaibiye Dolphin who confirmed the Incident to our reporter said Chief Opoto was kidnapped from the boat conveying him to the community. Mr Dolphin said Chief Opoto was intercepted by the gunmen and taken away on the waterways about five minutes before getting to the community.
Mr. Dolphin also called on the relevant security agencies and the Rivers State government to facilitate the release of Kidnapped Chief Opoto. Mr Dolphin added that they do not know the reason for the Kidnap and the kidnappers have not contacted the family or Council of Chiefs.
Our reporter gathered that the incident has been reported to the Police. The spokesperson for the Rivers State Police command, SP Grace Iringe Koko was yet to respond to text messages sent to his mobile phone by our reporter.
