Resumption Of Varsities Not At Sight As ASUU Extends Strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has again, extended the ongoing strike.

The action of the nation’s public university lecturers’ union, came after its National Executive Council, NEC meeting held in Abuja.

The meeting which began late Sunday at the University of Abuja’s headquarters of ASUU, ended early Monday morning with the resolution that the strike is rolled over.

A lecturer with the University of Calabar, UNICAL, who disclosed this to our correspondent, said: “ASUU has extended the strike again.

This government has refused to pay us, so we can’t go back to classes.

“I currently have over one thousand scripts in my house, both marked and unmarked.

I can’t attend to them because this government is owing me six months.”

ASUU has been on strike since February 2022 over a disagreement in past agreements reached with the government.
