The Principal State Counsel in the murder trial of Ifeanyi Dike and two others over alleged murder of eight-year-old girl Chikamso Victory Nmezuwuba, Barrister Chidi Eke, will on Friday, July 12 cross-examine the second defendant in the case, Ugochukwu Nwamiro.
This will be before a Port-Harcourt High Court presided over by Justice Adolphus Enebeli.
The second defendant, Ugochukwu Nwamiro, entered his defence on July 5 to say what he knew about the alleged murder of the eight-year-old girl.
He faces an allegation that he asked first defendant, Ifeanyi Dike, to get body parts of the eight-year-old girl for money ritual.
The police in Rivers State alleged that first defendant, Ifeanyi Dike, sent a text message to Nwamiro after the eight-year-old girl was murdered to inform him that he had got the body parts for the money ritual.
The second defendant while giving his defence said that he had received no text message from the first defendant on 18th August, 2017.
Nwamiro entered his defence as the presiding judge gave decision in an earlier sitting that he had case to answer.
His counsel, Barrister Sonye Ndah, had made a no-case submission and had asked the court to strike out the matter against his client, saying that the prosecuting counsel could not establish any case against him.
Ndah said in an interview that his client was innocent of the allegation made against him, saying that the text message sent to his client from Ifeanyi Dike’s phone did not come from the phone of the first defendant.
Barrister Ndah tendered a document in court on July 5 from MTN which showed the call logs of the second defendant and the document was admitted in evidence by the presiding judge.
At an interview, he said: “We have tendered a document from MTN which shows that from the 17th of August, 2017 to the 20th of August, 2017, the first defendant, Ifeanyichukwu Dike, did not have any communication with my client, Ugochukwu Nwamiro neither did he send a text message to my client”.
On his part, the principal state counsel, Barrister Chidi Eke, said that he would cross-examine the second defendant when the court sits on July 12.
He said the case is between the Rivers State Government and Ifeanyi Dike and two others.
The first defendant in the case is Ifeanyi Dike while the second and third defendants respectively are Ugochukwu Nwamiro and Sergeant Johnbosco Okoroeze who was dismissed as Sergeant when he was prosecuted.
Okoroeze is facing prosecution for allegedly helping the first defendant to escape as he was taking him to cell at the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) in Port-Harcourt.
The first defendant, Ifeanyi Dike, is being prosecuted for allegedly killing an eight-year-old girl, Chikamso Victory Nmezuwuba, in Eliozu in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State on 18th August, 2017.
It is alleged that the first defendant sexually assaulted the eight-year-old girl and after murdering her removed some of her body parts for alleged money ritual.
However, his counsel, Barrister Lezina Amegua, had said in an interview that his client did not commit the crime and would be acquitted.
Parents of the eight-year-old girl have said that they want justice to be done in the case.
Mrs. Lucy Nmezuwuba said in an interview that her daughter was a “genius”, and wanted to become an internationally known ballet dancer.
