2 Years In Office: Tai Council Chairman, Hon. Okpe Gives Account Of Stewardship
…Doles Out N3m Each To ‘First Class’ Graduates
Hon. Mbakpone Friday Okpe, the Chairman of Tai Local Government Area of Rivers State, who will be completing his first tenure in office next year has rendered what he called “Account Of Stewardship For 2 Years In Office” to the people of Tai.
He said the event was organized to enable him give an account of stewardship to the who elected him into office, an avenue to clarify his approach to governance, developmental priorities and also to assure them of other good things he has in stock for them, adding that as a public servant, it’s expected of him to give good account of the public funds in his care.
The Council Boss who rolled out some of the milestones recorded by his administration said he was able to execute projects based on the support by the immediate past governor of Rivers State, Barr. Nyesom Wike and his successor, governor Siminalayi Fubara.
Some of the projects executed include the construction of the kpite ultra modern market, construction of vocational center at Koroma, remodeling and furnished of Nigeria Police Divisional Headquarters Tai and the DSS office, construction of corpers’ lodge at Nonwa, Botem , Bunu as well as the monthly empowerment of Tai people to the tone of #33,782,000 including stakeholders.
Explaining further, he said he had also awarded grants worth #500,000 to each of the wives of soldiers that lost their lives in active service, empowerment of Tai youths vocational training and skill acquisition, Tai volunteer health and educational support scheme, health insurance scheme to over 300 Tai elders to enable them access free medical care, grading of Bara-Ale/Sime/Ban-Goi road, ongoing construction of modern town hall,Kira and lots more.
He assured the people of Ward 3,6, and 10 that his administration will ensure that the dividends of democracy get to them within the next one year, and reiterated his to execute more projects till his last day in office as the Council boss.
His words: By God’s grace, I am gradually delivering the electioneering promises I made to them and I am going to do more within my remaining one year because I promised them of rendering my service to them until the last day in office.
Hon Okpe also doled out a cheque of N3 million each to two first class university graduates of Tai to enable them pursue their higher education abroad and urged other students to emulate the beneficiaries.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr. Emmanuel Tigbara who was highly elated thanked the Council boss, describing him as second to none and promised to make the people of Tai proud in their future endeavours.
The Gbenemene Tai kingdom, HM king Samuel L A Nnee commended Hon. Okpe for touching virtually all sectors within his two years in office, adding that Tai has never had it so good and that they are in need of people like Hon. Okpe who know the reason they are there, while describing him as someone whose position refused to get into his head.
He enjoined everyone to continue to support and pray for God’s grace and wisdom to enable the Chairman pilot the affairs of Tai to greater heights.
Dignitaries at the event include the member representing Tai Constituency at the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. B Bernard Ngbar, Rt. Hon. Kenude Levi, the leader of Tai Legislative Assembly, Comrade Baride Kayi, the Local Government Area Party Chairman and others.
