Camel Causes Stir Along Woji Road In PH
Concerned residents of Woji, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State have drawn the attention of the relevant authorities to the issue of examining animals before they are slaughtered for sale and consumption in the face of the absence of a central abbatoirs in Port Harcourt currently.
The call is coming on the heels of the sudden appearance of a camel, along the Woji/Slaughter axis of the Trans Woji Rd, tonight, caused a stir among motorists.
The camel, which headed towards the Slaughter area by the Eze Gbaka Gbaka market, a make-shift abattoir, raises concern that it might be slaughtered for consumption.
More worrisome, according to the residents is the issue of the insufficient number of Vet Doctors in the state that could examine meat before they are certified fit for sale and consumption.
With the absence of a central abbatoir in the Port Harcourt metropolis, many abbatoirs have sprung up in various locations, without facility for meat examinations, before slaughtering.
No one can confirm if the lone frail looking camel, spotting Monday night along the Woji Rd in PH, would be one of such meat in the market.
