Elder Statesmen Salute Opobo Women For God’s  Answer To Prayers

A socio-cultural group, the Opobo Elder Statesmen 4 Sim has commended the women of Opobo for their prayers which they said, has brought positive results to the kingdom.

Speaking at the commemoration of this year’s General Meeting of Opobo Women which was hosted by Biriye Polo Houses on Thursday, Chairman of Opobo Elder Statesmen 4 Sim, Alabo Edwin Cockeye Brown expressed joy that the annual prayers carried out by the women have resulted in what he called ‘manifold blessings’ for Opobo kingdom.

According to him, the consistent prayers by the women have led to the construction of what he called a super highway to Opobo by the Wike administration, the first in the history of the kingdom.

“We are here today, to thank you all for your prayers.  We recognize it is something you do every year, interceding for God’s unstoppable, manifold blessings for Opobo kingdom and its people. We are here to remind you that God has answered your prayers.

“First and foremost, we now have a super highway to Opobo and it is the first of its kind, thanks to the administration of His Excellency, Chief (Barr) Nyesom Ezenwo Wike.  Opobo will never forget him for this historic gesture, and God Almighty will bless him for it”, he told the women who sparkled in their stunningly green blouses, headgears and coffee-flowered wrappers.

Alabo Edwin Cockeye Brown also counted the emergence of an Opobo son, Amaopusenibo Siminialayi Fubara as the governorship flag bearer of the Rivers PDP, saying it as another dividend of the women’s prayers.

While also commending the Biriye Polo compounds of Opobo for the successful hosting of the women meeting, Alabo Cockeye Brown urged those women who are yet to collect their PVCs to do so, as doing that would give them the right to vote in next year general election.

In his speech at the event, the Alabo-in-council of Biriye Polo, Pastor Chamberlain Dodd Peterside, congratulated the women for the orderly conduct of the meeting, but appealed to them to go and pick up their PVCs.

He advised that even after collecting the PVC, they should preserve and guide it against mutilation.

“I also want to congratulate our women for their orderliness and ability to organize such beautiful event as we see today. But you must try to preserve the PVCs.  It is a critical card that contains a lot of information.

“If it is defaced, it cannot capture you.  So, as much as possible, when you collect your PVCs, try as much as possible to keep it in a safe place so it will be good.  When they put it in the machine, it will capture your data and prepare you for the voting”, he said.

Earlier in her welcome address, the leader of Opobo women and wife of the Amanyanabo of Opobo kingdom, Queen Prudence Douglas Dandeson Jaja charged the women to sustain the love for one another and always work for the unity and progress of Opobo kingdom.

The Opobo queen described the theme of the conference which is Thanksgiving as apt, stressing that when you show gratitude to God for what he has bdone, in He goes on to do more.

The one day colourful event featured variety of shows including talks and drama presentation.
