The General Overseer of Christ Jesus Link Gospel Ministry, Port Harcourt, Rev (Dr) Soberekon Sokari has appealed to the Wike led administration to speed up work on the final phase of the Trans Kalabari Road and have it completed before the termination of the regime in the next two weeks.
The eighty year old cleric and retired professional wrestler, who spoke to National Network at his Marine Base church in Port Harcourt on Monday, said he is not unaware of the complexities of the completion of work on the road, considering the time frame left for Wike to leave office.
“I understand our golden governor is leaving office in two weeks time, but I beg him to release the money needed for the final phase of the Trans-Kalabari road before he leaves. I know that Wike is a lover of the Kalabari people, and that’s why I am confident he will consent to my plea”, Sokari said.
A renowned activist, promoting the rights of Niger Deltans to control their mineral resources, Sokari had been vocal in his call for true federalism in Nigeria, arguing that the Niger Delta which lays the golden egg in the country have ironically been given the backseat in the sharing equation.
Rev (Dr) Sokari said he had been on the advocacy for civil rights and good governance for more than three decades, but regretted that his cries for improved life for the people of the Niger Delta had gone on deaf ears.
“I championed the establishment of the 15% oil derivation during the regime of the late President Shehu Shagari. Today, I am in my eighties, and I want to see the fruits of my labour before I die”, he declared.
“That’s why I am begging and calling on Governor Nyesom Wike to ensure that the whole money for the remaining work on the Trans-Kalabari Road project is released, so that when his successor, Sir Siminialayi Fubara comes on board in the next two weeks, he will work to complete it”, he said.
