Opobo/Nkoro Flood And Erosion MGT Committee, Starts Work
...Kicks Off Awareness Campaigns, Identifies Challenged Areas
The Opobo/Nkoro LGA Flood and Erosion Management Committee inaugurated last Friday in Opobo town by the Council Chairman Rt. Hon. Enyiada Cookey Gam has commenced work.
At a maiden meeting held by the LGA Flood and Erosion Committee at the Council Lodge, Opobo town, the Chairman of the Committee, Warisenibo Harold Nengia charged the 11 member Committee to see the assignment as a call to salvage the LGA. The committee with the following as members
Warisenibo Harold Nengia – Chairman; Warisenibo Erasmus – D. Orans – Vice; Warisenibo Sampson C. Jaja – Secretary; Amaopusenibo Dienye Bell-Gam; Mr. Faith Phillip; Amaopu Orubo Felicia S. Pepple; Lady Christiana E. Jaja; Hon. Ida Obomanu; Warisenibo Joe Johnson; Humphrey F. Daminabo; Hon. Reuben Fiberesima were presented with the terms of reference which includes the desilting of blocked canals, drains, gutters in the entire LGA and provision of Camps for flood victims (IDPs)among others.
The committee visited some flood challenged areas and flash points like Mbiwari, Brown, Toby, Ogolo, Cookey and Council axis road including the unserviceable 4 Non-return valves all within Opobo the council headquarters.
The Committee will be visiting other communities within the LGA and shall further embark on sensitization campaigns, radio jingles, town criers and enlightenment through other social media platforms.
You would recall that Nigerian Metrological Agency, NIMET recently warned of immediate flooding of several States and Local govt areas in the country and Opobo/Nkoro was mentioned hence this immediate action to mitigate against the disaster.
