…. Believe Oil Resumption Will Kill Ogoni People

A statement by MOSOP’s general secretary, Deacon Monday Neeka Ziinu said the issue of self determination resonated profoundly at the rally as every speaker called for respect for Ogoni rights.
President of MOSOP, Fegalo Nsuke said respect for the rights of the Ogoni people will address the Ogoni problem, restore peace to the Niger Delta and lead to a better and happier Nigeria.
Nsuke said the “Ogoni people will not accept the continual violation of their rights nor shall we allow the sacrifices of our heroes including Ken Saro–Wiwa go in vain”
Nsuke said “Oil resumption will kill the Ogoni people and therefore the idea should be discarded for now”
“The Ogoni people will definitely resist plans to resume oil production in Ogoni without the people’s consent and the only and usual response of government will be to send in the soldiers who kill us and because the Ogoni people do not want further killing in the land, it is best not to go ahead with oil resumption in Ogoni until the issue is properly negotiated”
Nsuke called for the creation of a state for the Ogoni people and the decriminalization of the nine Ogonis hanged on November 10, 1995..
On the Ogoni cleanup, Nsuke said cleanup without provision of water, compensation for the destruction of livelihood sources, and a plan to handle contaminated wastes makes the project a failure.
