DELGA CSO’s Residence Torched

….Properties Worth Millions Of Naira Destroyed

In what appeared to be an assassination attempt, some unknown arsonists Saturday night attacked the Bakana residence of the Chief Security Officer of Degema Local Government Area, Amb. Dennis Teneilabe.

Although no life was lost as nobody was in the building at the time of the incident, properties worth millions of naira were gutted by the fire.

According to eyewitness reports which revealed that the incident occurred around 11pm, the fire destroyed parts of the building before it was put out by the combined efforts of neighbours at home, who were alerted by the raging fire.

Reacting to the development, Amb. Teneilabe expressed shock that at the time he was working assiduously to ensure that the palliatives sent by Governor Nyesom Wike through the Amb. Desmond Akawor-led State Covid-19 Palliative Committee is properly coordinated and delivered to the people across the 17 wards of Delga, he received the unfortunate and shocking news that his house has been set on fire by some unscrupulous persons.

Amb. Teneilabe who said he has handed over the matter to God, stressed that he has no power of his own, but that God would pay them back in their own coin.

He called on the State Government and relevant security agencies to launch a thorough investigation and fish out the culprits to serve as a deterrent to other criminal elements.

Meanwhile, some stakeholders in Bakana have condemned the barbaric act, describing it as alien to the people of the community.

President-General of Bakana Community Development Association (BCDA), Engr. Iloye Braide while describing it as most unfortunate, noted that it was impossible for the fire to just occur with no one at home to have possibly caused the fire.

In his reaction on Sunday, Engr. Iloye Braide wrote: “I feel very sad and heartbroken to bring to your notice what just happened last night. It is very unfortunate and it does not reflect who we are as a people”.

He further said: “The house at the back of the New Health Centre belonging to The CSO of the DELGA Chairman was set on fire around 11:00pm last night being 2/5/2020. Luckily, nobody was home. It is not that somebody was home, light being on, cooking or something.

“This is very unfortunate and anybody that have information relating to this should give such to the security agents in Bakana. Arson is not part of us and cannot be part of us”.

Also speaking, Alabo Sir Sokaribo Awusin Yellowe, described the development as despicable, appealing to the youth to shun all forms of violence and embrace dialogue as a veritable tool for conflict resolution, rather than engaging in such vices.
