Woman Escapes Jungle Justice Over Alleged Stealing
A married woman known as Nkechi Odum who hails from Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State, narrowly escaped being stripped naked after she was accused falsely of stealing at a clothes stand in Mile 3 last Thursday.
Our correspondent reports that five men held Mrs Odum and gave her option of being stripped naked or follow them to a Juju shrine to prove her innocence. Another woman identified as Faith Obuchi, who claimed Mrs Odum stole her money where women clustered to buy ‘Okirika’ clothes at front of Elechi town hall/Ikwerre road Mile 3 Diobu was with them.
When asked by our reporter why they were holding the woman, the men said she stole allegedly 6,000 naira and phone but they searched her they did not see the items, that they suspect she must have handed it over to another of her member who left the scene before people noticed.
Succour came the way of Mrs Odum when the Youth President of Rumu- Elechi Community Mile 3 Diobu, Godstime Ihunwo and his youths arrived the scene.
Some of the men holding Mrs Odum took to their heels while the Miss Obuchi and one of the men was taken to the Youth office of Elechi Community.
Our reporter said that after a careful look at the issue by the Youth it was established that Mrs Odum did not steal as being accused. Mrs Odum who said she has forgiven the persons who accused her falsely pleaded with the youth not to hand over the matter to the Police.
Mrs Odum told our reporter that in the process she was being dragged by the ‘agberos,’ she lost 1,200 naira and her phone and expressed shock that people could accuse somebody falsely.
