NIESV To Commence Housing Study In Rivers
The Rivers State branch of the Nigeria Institution of Estate Surveyor and Valuers (NIESV) says it will soon commence the study of housing in Port Harcourt, the state capital and its environs.
Speaking to journalists recently in Port Harcourt, the newly elected Chairman in the state, Comrade Hamilton Odom said the housing study will be carried out before the end of the year to enable the state’s actors acquaint themselves with the number of residents living within the areas.
According to him, the purpose and essence of the housing study is that it will help the government to know the number of households in Port Harcourt City and Obio/Akpor LGAs.
Comrade Odom explained that the two LGAs would serve as a pilot project for the exercise.
On when and how this would be achieved, the Chairman said: “The first and most important programme or agenda of Rivers NIESV is to carry out an adequate housing study within these LGAs. In fact, we will do this housing study before the end of the year; which is the last quarter of this year.
“However, whatever is the result of the study or outcome will be posted to the state government to enable the government officials be armed with enough information and data in the area of tenement rates”.
Comrade Odom reiterated on the need for the leadership of NIESV to inspire and encourage young estate surveyors in the state.
“Very soon, the current EXCO of Rivers NIESV will hold and organize continuous professional education for our young professionals. We will not encourage idleness among our young professions”, he assured.
The Rivers NIESV boss promised to introduce a lot of innovations and creativities in the institution.
