…As Dignitaries Pay Tribute
The remains of Late Pa Chrisian Kpekpee Visung, believed to have been the oldest man in Bodo City, in Gokana Local Government Area of Rivers State, was laid to rest at the weekend.
He was 108 years old and generally acknowledged as a crusader for peace and friendly to all cadres of human beings, hence his demise attracted widespread sympathy and attendance.
His only son and chief mourner, Chief Jude Nubari Visung described his late father as a treasure and an indisputable chronicler of both local and foreign history, garnered through the gift of long life and retentive memory, oiled by the fair level of western education he acquired in those good old days.
According to Chief Jude Nubari Visung, his late father (popularly called Basil) was also a good farmer cum fisherman, in addition to playing football as first choice goal-keeper in the Bodo City town team of yore which toured places across the present-day Niger Delta region.
It is worthy of mention that, gangsterisms and related criminalities have ceased in Bodo City over six months today, thus providing the much-needed atmosphere for socialization and other private businesses to function as desired.
Consequently, the week-long burial activities for Teerh Christian Kpekpee Visung Buulo Dome Gbaravika which began on Thursday, October 28, 2020 witnessed unprecedented crowd from across Rivers State which Chief Visung Jude and his three sisters Martha, Kpegele (Edit) and Baridi Alloy-Khenom attributed to God’s special love and public respect for the family.
A devout member of the Catholic faith from childhood till death, the Late Teerh Visung reportedly advised his children to always consider respect for God and service to mankind as sine qua non, in their lifetime activities. They thanked all those that contributed in various ways to make the event successful.
Late Pa Christian Kpekpee Visung was the father-in-law of veteran journalist and Public Commentator, Comrade (Rasta) Alloy Ironlee Khenom who, in his remark at the event, appreciated his colleagues particularly the National Network newspaper family for providing coverage to the event.
Dignitaries who graced the occasion include the Executive Chairman of Gokana Local Government Area, Hon. Paul Vidag Kobani, his predecessor in office, Hon. Louis Alawa, a socialite and human developer, Gogote Badom-Badom (Ashanti), while Mates’83, Genuine Sisters and Gbaranwin Family of Kpor Community were also spotted.
