Police Detain OSPAC Members       

Two members of OSPAC in Obite community in Etche Local Government are in the custody of the Anti-kidnapping unit of Rivers State Police command for allegedly torturing a man to death, National Network has learned.

We gathered that they were arrested following complaints by the relatives of the victim and transferred to Anti-kidnapping unit of the Rivers State Police command in Port Harcourt.

Our source disclosed that the deceased was arrested by OSPAC for undisclosed crime and detained for good number of days while he was allegedly tortured by the OSPAC personnel which eventually led to his death.

A Senior Police Officer who did not want his name in print confirmed the incident to our reporter.

Meanwhile some natives who spoke on condition of anonymity has expressed concern on the activities of OSPAC allegedly ranging from torture, indiscriminate arrest, unlawful detention and collection of money for bail.

They called on the Rivers state Government and local Government Authority to beam their searchlight on OSPAC to ensure they work within the confines of the law.

It would be recalled that an OSPAC member was accused of shooting to death a Manager of a Bet company at Oyigbo last month over misunderstanding with a customer.

Our correspondent reports that the matter is being investigated by the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), Port Harcourt .  

It would also be recalled that persons suspected to be members of OSPAC, local vigilante in Aluu,  Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State allegedly shot seven persons on May 30th,2021 when they stormed Adanta community in Isiokpo, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The Youth Chairman of Adanta community,  Ikwerre Local Government area  Chizi Edwin had in a telephone interview with our reporter accused the OSPAC personnel of shooting seven persons and taking one person away to anti cultism unit  headquarters of the Rivers State Police command at Rupokwu, Port Harcourt.

Mr Edwin had expressed displeasure at the indiscriminate shooting of natives of the area by men suspected to be OSPAC members.
