Ignatius Ajuru Suspends Students Union Executive Over Alleged Theft
The management of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education has suspended Mr. Johnson Leyira of the department of political science who also doubles as an official of the National Union of Rivers State Studebts (NURSS) for alleged theft.
A statement released by the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Ozo-Mekuri Ndimele in its official facebook last Monday, alleged that Mr. Leyira vandalised school property and stole from the girls’ hostel at an unholy hour.
The Vice Chancellor, in the statement said the student has been handed over to the police for further interrogation.
Professor Ozo-Mekuri also disclosed that the case has been referred to the Senate Disciplinary Committee to decide his fate with regard to his studentship with the institution.
The Vice Chancellor saluted the courage of the students who apprehended Leyira and who also prevented him from being mobbed.
Professor Ozo-Mekuri urged students not to kill apprehended suspects but should rather hand them over to the security and allow justice to take its natural course while assuring that such suspects will not be spared if found guilty.
