Khana, Gokana Councils Partner To Foster Peace Between Yeghe, Uegwere Bo-Ue Communities

The Executive Chairman of Khana LGA Dr. Thomas Bariere alongside his Gokana counterpart Hon. Confidence Deko have visited Uegwere Boue and Yeghe Communities to initiate moves that will foster lasting peace between the two communities.

Yeghe and Uegwere Boue communities had been at loggerhead with themselves for some years. There has been report of alleged killings and attacks from both ends of the communities reportedly over farmland and boundary.

The Khana Council boss while addressing the people of Uegwere and Yeghe communities stressed the need for them to sheath their sword and give peace a chance, stressing that the purpose of the visit was to reassure the communities that the leadership of Khana and Gokana Councils are committed to ensuring that lasting peace returns.

Dr. Bariere further stated that the Peace Committee that was set up by their predecessor would be allowed to continue the peace process already initiated.

He however appealed to the people of Yeghe and Uegwere to stay clear of the disputed farmland for a period of three weeks so as to allow the Peace Committee come up with resolutions that will bring lasting peace.

The Gokana Council boss, on his part reiterated the need for peace to reign between the two communities, noting that what necessitated this move is the drive to ease the pains of his people.

He however joined voice with the Khana Council boss to appeal to the people of Yeghe to stay away from the disputed farmland for a period of three weeks to allow the constituted Peace Committee come up with resolutions that will be of mutual benefit to the communities.
