Youth Leader Charges Nigerians To Seek God’s Intervention

As Nigeria celebrates her 59 years of independence, Hon. Deac. Odimabo Torukwein JP, the Rivers State Youth leader of the People Democratic Party (PDP), has charged Nigerians to seek divine intervention to tackle the various challenges confronting the country.

He said that the Independence anniversary celebration should be a sober reflection to identify the short-comings and also to chart a new course for a brighter future.

According to him, the high level of insecurity in the country would be overcome if all the religious leaders would come together inspite difference in their beliefs to pray for the country and also for the security agencies to curb insecurity in the country. He noted that security is a collective responsibility, and cannot be left in the hands of the security agencies alone. “They can only succeed with prayers, so it is high time we helped them succeed with our prayers” he said.

Hon. Torukwein stated that Nigerians as a resilient people can indeed with their strength, number and consciousness create a society that would be progressive, egalitarian and just for all.

The youth leader also attributed the cause of crime in the society to lack of employment for the youths said that if the youths were gainfully employed, it would help avert some of the social vices in the society. He urged the government to create employment for the youths and also ensure that rehabilitated militants are positively engaged, so that they would not return to crime.

Hon. Torukwein also called for the reform in the electoral system, to avoid the new trend of nullification of elections results by the judiciary. He added that most Nigerians vehemently refused to vote during election period because they were of the opinion that their votes would count.

He therefore urged the federal government to introduce electronic voting system, that would encourage everyone to exercise their franchise.

He also appealed to all Nigerians to remain steadfast and support their leaders for more meaningful socio-economic developments that could have direct impact on the lives of the people, saying there is still hope for Nigeria.
