RSHA Permits Relevant Authorities To Enforce Wearing of Facemasks

…Says No Sacred Cows Will Be Allowed

Managers of hotels, banks,malls and every other public places are to face sanctions for allowing people access their facilities without wearing face masks.

This is sequel to the resolution of Rivers State House of Assembly that the enforcement of the wearing of face masks in public places in the state be sustained and implemented as passed by the House.

The House had after debating on a motion presented by the  House committee Chairman on Health, Sam Ogeh resolved to ensure that all precautionary measures to curb the spread of COVID -19 Pandemic be enforced by the relevant authorities.

Presenting the motion, Sam Ogeh who is the lawmaker representing Emuoha constituency in state Assembly had commended the  State Government and all the health frontline workers for their efforts to curb the spread and condemned the lackadaisical attitude of residents for not obeying the preventive measures in the state.

He also commended all the corporate bodies for all their contributions towards the fight against the pandemic.

In their different submissions, the lawmakers described the motion as very timely especially this period when residents have refused to use the face masks and also supported the  enforcement in the State.

They maintained that one surest way to curb the spread of Corona Virus is by wearing face masks adding that the effects of the pandemic on the economy has made it necessary people to wear face masks in public places.

The House recommended punitive measures for people who do not wear face masks in public places as well as managers of public places who allow people without facemasks in their facilities.

Meanwhile, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Ikuinyi Owaji Ibani, in his submission said the security agencies should collaborate with the Ministry of Health to enforce the wearing of facemasks in the state.
