The Rivers State College of Health Science & Technology, Rumueme, Port Harcourt over the weekend matriculated about 700 fresh students who recently gained admission into the school.
In his address at the occasion, the Provost of the College, Dr. Franklin Nlerum informed that the college has 10 schools with the School of Foundation Studies that services the other schools.
The Provost who is also an Associate Professor of Rural Sociology and Extension, reeled out the departments that is operational in the college to include School of Environmental Health Technology; School of Community Health; School of Pharmacy Technician; School of Dental Health Science; School of Health Information Management; School of Medical Laboratory Sciences; School of Public Health; School of Medial Social Work School of Biomedical Engineering Technology and School of Medical Imaging Technology.
The Provost, Dr. Nlerum recalled that the College formerly took off in 2003 after the amalgamation of School of Health Technology, Nursing and Midwifery with the Public Health Nursing which had existed separately for over 20 years before them, through the instrumentality of laws.
According to him, “the broad objective of the College is to train and produce low and middle level manpower for the health care delivery services for the people of Rivers State, Nigeria and beyond.
The Provost made it known that the College has the mission of creating, preserving and communicating knowledge in Health Science and Technology and thereby contributes to the enhancement of the well-being of the Rivers State, Nigeria and the world.
He also stated that their vision is to be one of Nigeria’s outstanding Colleges of Health Science and Technology for the training of efficient, self-reliant and enterprising manpower to meet the challenges of contemporary health care delivery service.
Dr. Nlerum used the opportunity to advise the students to take their studies seriously and avoid hooliganism, exam malpractices, cultism and other deviant tendencies as the administration has zero tolerance for these vices, adding that there is a great distance between matriculation and convocation.
