Okporo Police Division Assures Of Improved Security

The Okporo Police Division has assured the Eliozu Community in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State of improved security of lives and property of her citizens.

The newly posted Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the station, SP Abubakar Umar, gave this assurance when he paid a familiarization visit to the community over the weekend.

The DPO however said the police would of course work in synergy with the youths, chiefs and elders of Eliozu Community to achieve set goal especially in the area of supply of vital information to combat crime and assured them of total protection of the informants.

He further assured that all the six(6) communities under his jurisdiction must experience total peace and development where none would be oppressed.

Responding, the chairman of Eliozu Traditional Rulers Council, Chief (Dr.) Emeka Orlu expressed the appreciation of the community and readiness to support the police in their assignment in any way possible. He informed the guests that Eliozu community is one of the peaceful communities in Rivers State and that they would do anything to ensure sustained relationship.

Also speaking, the Eliozu Youth Association President, Hon. Alex Omunnakwe said they were ready to lend their support to the police for the peaceful coexistence of the citizens and residents alike.

He added that it was in the time past that the community experienced petty crimes and criminality but that his administration has taken care of that through the establishment of a local vigilante group to tackle the menace.

The son of the immediate past late paramount ruler of Eliozu community, crown Prince Fineluck H. N. Woko who came late to the venue expressed anger and disappointment to the council for sidelining him in the scheme of things. He particularly accused the Eliozu Traditional Rulers Council chairman, Chief (Dr.) Emeka Orlu.

“I was surprisingly not informed of the visit and protocol demands that the guests come first to the palace of the late HRH Eze Iweala J. Woko for a curtesy call before going to the hall for the meeting especially since he has not been replaced. I would say categorically that Chief (Dr.) Emeka Orlu has betrayed me,” he lamented.

In a chat with the pressmen at the sideline of the event, the Community Development Committee (CDC) chairman of Eliozu, Comrade Osondu Orlu also pledged his support to the police for peaceful coexistence in the community.

The chairman who has been on the seat for over 12 years blamed his long stay on the seat on financial report disagreement which at a point involved the Anti-graft agency the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), adding that there was no where an incoming CDC Executives would have been handed over such burden, assuming an election was held,” he said.

Comr. Orlu used the opportunity to reel out some of his achievements these past years to include a transformer mounted at the community hall.

He however promised that in no distance time, a CDC election in the community will be conducted.

Those who graced the occasion includes, Chief (Dr) Emeka Orlu; Chief (Engr.) Timothy Amaewhule; Elder Morgan Ejekwu; Elder Lazarus Uche Wele; Chief Emenike Worlu; Chief Uzoma Weli and Elder Mike Elenwo.

Others were Chief Samuel Weli; Chief Fyneface Woke; Eze (Comr.) Clington Adams; Elder Godpower Weli; Chief Elder John Adele; Comr. Osondu Orlu, CDC chairman and Hon Alex Omunnakwe, Youth President.

In the DPO’s delegation were DSP Surajo Baita, S. O.; DSP Abel John, DCO II and DSP Emmanuel Paddy, A. O.

In another development the Eliozu Community in Oro-Esara Kingdom, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State have kick started the process of looking for a successor to her late Paramount Ruler/Nyenweli, HRH Eze Iweala J. Woko who joined his ancestors last year 2019.

Sequel to stakeholders’ efforts in the promotion of healthy environment, a petition was sent to the security agencies for their support in this regards to achieve set goal.

According to one of the chief who spoke to our reporter on condition of anonymity, “the petition was minuted to the DSS and SSIB for necessary intelligent report, after which the Commissioner of Police directed the Area Commander, Mini Okoro Police station to work hand-in-glove with the DPO Okporo Police station for a peaceful transition in the community,” he said.

Consequently, a peace committee was set up which membership includes chief (Dr) Emeka Orlu, the Eliozu Traditional Rulers Council Chairman; Eze, Comr. Clington Worlu Adams, Palace Secretary, Oro-Esara Kingdom; Comrade Osondu Orlu, the embattled CDC Chairman of Eliozu and Comrade Alex Omunnakwe, Eliozu Youth President to maintain peace and tranquility in the community and as well oversee the conduct of the CDC election and the transitional programmes for the emergence of a new Paramount Ruler/Nyenweli.

The committee members were asked to report on Monday 24th August 2020 for signing of papers to the peace accord, while the DPO and his delegates visit Eliozu Community for familiarization and perhaps fact finding tour.

As a result of the lifting of the infortunate ban placed on activities by the COVID-19 pandemic, HRM Eze J. A. Utchay (JP), Eze Esara III, Nyerisi Mbam, Oroesara Kingdom they said had approved the commencement of the process of replacement of the late Paramount Ruler as well as sanitizing the community, starting with the notification of the Obio/Akpor Council chairman.

Consequent upon that, Eze, Comr. Clington Worlu Adams, (Igwe Jieli Budu), Palace Secretary, Oro-Esara Kingdom has indicated interest to vie for the vacant seat of the paramount rulership stool of Eliozu Community.

Speaking with newsmen over the weekend in his office, he explained the hierarchy of  the traditional rulership stools in Oro-Esara Kingdom, his position and the reason for his ambition.

According to him, “Oro-Esara Kingdom is the Supreme Council in the traditional rulership hierarchy, followed by the Oroigwe Clan before the eighteen (18) Community that constitutes the kingdom and every of my public appearances in any of the 18 communities is in a  dual capacity, one representing His Majesty and two, my very self,” he stated.

Eze Adams said he has met with the “Rumuinya” (Daughters of the land) whose duty, he noted, is to search his family root and confirm his eligibility.  He made it clear that the reason for his ambition is to return the stool to its rightful royal family.
