Rivers Lawmakers Support Gov Wike’s Moves In Ensuring Peaceful State

Under matter of urgent public importance, the Rivers State House of Assembly has thrown its weight behind Governor Nyesom Wike’s efforts to maintain peace in the state, especially the revalidation of the proscription of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Ikuinyi Ibani, who made this known during a press conference said the decision was based on prevailing situation in the state where some people are bent on derailing the existing peace in the state.

He commended Governor Nyesom Wike for standing up for Rivers State and also the state security council for their efforts in maintaining peace.

Rt. Hon. Ibani who spoke on behalf of the principal officers and all lawmakers of the Rivers State House of Assembly condemned in strong terms the violence orchestrated by members of the IPOB and other miscreants that led to the loss of lives and properties in the state.

The Assembly also called on members of their constituents and everyone living in Rivers State to maintain peace and  desist from being misled by those who do not mean well for the state, while assuring them that the state government was doing everything humanly possible to ensure that their lives and properties are safe.

The speaker who said the Assembly is in support of all peaceful agitations called for the disbandment of SARS, and called on those who have used the opportunity of the peaceful protest to commit crime to have a change of heart in the interest of all.

He commended all members of their constituencies for their peaceful disposition in the face of unwarranted provocation while urging them to be vigilant in all their doings.

The statement which was signed by all the lawmakers representing the 32 constituencies in the Rivers State House of Assembly and read by the Speaker also commiserated with all those who lost their loved ones in the process.
