Rivers State governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, has assured corps members deployed to the state of his administration’s unflinching resolve and commitment to champion their security and welfare always.
Wike gave the assurance Monday while presiding over the swearing-in ceremony for 2020 Batch B stream 1A corps members deployed to the state.
The governor who was represented at the occasion by the Head, Special Projects in the office of the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Chimenum Mpi charged the corps members to comply strictly with the safety guidelines and protocols established by the Presidential Task Force on Covid-19 and the National Centre for Disease Control on safe camping.
He commended the management of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, for the introduction of the skills acquisition programme into the orientation course content as well as other empowerment programmes that have made corps members to become self reliant and employers of labour.
Earlier, the State Coordinator of the NYSC, Mr. Chinwendu Chukwu passionately appealed to the governor to come to the aid of the Scheme by way of approving funds for the rebuilding of the burnt down dining hall and completion of work at the amphitheatre auditorium.
Mr. Chukwu encouraged the corps members to promote the spirit of brotherliness, peace, love and mutual trust amongst one another as a means of building bridges of national unity and integration.
The oath of allegiance was administered by Hon. Justice ITC Igwe who represented the Chief Judge of Rivers state.
The ceremony was witnessed by security chiefs, representative of the Chairman of Tai local government area , representative of the traditional rulers and camp officials amidst strict compliance with the Covid-19 guidelines and protocols.
