Airforce Secondary School Marks 31st Anniversary

…As College Commences Boarding

The management and staff of Air Force Secondary School (AFSS) Port Harcourt have commemorated its 31st anniversary celebration with the theme, ‘Let’s Go Back To School, It’s Time To Reminisce’.

Speaking at the event which coincided with the school’s maiden Alumni Day/Annual Meet 2022, the Commandant of the School, Group Captain A.T. Adejimi said the purpose of the event was to bring ex-students of the school together so as to contribute their quota towards the development of their Alma mater, adding that the school had about 26 sets from inception.

“We expect that each of the set of the ex-students of this school can do something for its Alma mater. We have about 26 sets of the ex-students. Each of the set can do a classroom project or the renovation of the hall. You can also fix a new ceiling. In fact, there is need for every office in the school to be air conditioned. For generator if we cannot have the big one, let’s have the small one”, Group captain Adejimi emphasized.

The Commandant pointed out that there were several areas the ex-­students could come to the aid of their alma mater.

His words, “As ex-students of this school, I want to challenge you to do your best for your Alma mater. If you and your set contribute any project, we will showcase you and you will commission it by yourselves”. He promised.

He assured that the Alumni Day celebration of the school would be an annual event, adding that the 2023 event will hold in January, 2023.

The Commandant added that the management of the school is poised and determined to make the school about the best in the world.

According to him, “As a school, we are not yet where we want to be. However, it is our hope and expectation that in the next one year we will have all our classrooms in top condition and conducive enough for learning.

“We want to bring the school to the millennium and digital standard where the students will learn well and relate well and the teachers will be comfortable. We want to make this school about the best in the world”.

On the possibility of commencing boarding system in the school, Group Captain Adejimi revealed that the boy’s hostel has reached advanced stage, adding, “In fact, it is 90 percent ready. Once the girls’ hostel is ready. We will begin our boarding system”.

He described the parents of the students as the best asset of the school. He said:“The PTA members are doing their best. For the PTA, I say well done. We are also happy with what the ex-students are doing”.

He promised that the current management would continue to advance the academic pursuit of the students.
