2022 Budget: Pensioners Flay RSG Over Poor Allocation

The Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), Rivers State Council has disclosed that the money approved in the 2022 budget by the Rivers State Government for gratuities, pension arrears, death benefits, harmonization is inadequate considering the amount of debts involved.

Rivers NUP Chairman, Comrade Collins Iheanyi Nwankwo made the disclosure in his opening address during the State delegates election of the union on Tuesday to elect executives that will pilot the affairs of the union for the next four years.

Comrade Nwankwo said NUP is not comfortable with the figures proposed in the budget but appealed to Governor Nyesom Wike to quickly commence implementation of the provisions of the budget as it affects the pensioners, to save their lives.

Nwankwo however, revealed that payments of monthly pensions for pensioners on Rivers State Government payroll have been regular.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Chairperson in Rivers State in her speech through her representative promised to ensure that the entitlements and rights of the pensioners are fulfilled by the Rivers State Government.

Among those present at the occasion was the representative of the National Secretariat of NUP, Mr. Godwin Amadi and other key holders of the body.
