Counsel Accuses Witness During Cross-Examination Of Lying
A counsel who was cross-examining a witness on Monday told the court that the witness was lying. However, the witness told the court that he was not.
The High Court presided by Honourable Justice C. D. Green heard that the witness was arrested by police and his car taken but that he was later released along with his car.
The witness named Jeremiah Obinna lived in Aluu in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State before he was arrested by police.
A source said that his creditor whom he owed about N500,000 allegedly contacted officers with one of the police units to effect his arrest to get payment.
He was arrested in 2021 and his car taken away by police. The source said that while he was released four days after his arrest last year his car was released only in May this year.
In another cross-examination, another counsel involved in the case put to the witness that both him and his car were released by the police on the same day but the witness said he was released on a different date and his car also released on a different date.
The presiding judge of the court adjourned the case until 18 July for ruling and for continuation of hearing.
