N78.9 Billion Refund: Gov Wike Thanks President Buhari

…Invites Him To Official Visit

The recent refund of N78.9 billion to the Rivers State Government by the federal government for execution of federal government’s roads in the State, continues to draw reactions with Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike writing to thank President Muhammadu Buhari over the gesture.

In the letter which the governor captioned ‘Thank You Our Dear President’, Wike described the gesture as not only remarkable but heart-warming, adding that the President has demonstrated expressively that he is indeed a president for every state of the federation.

“I assure you that the Rivers State Government is willing and ever ready to cooperate and partner with the federal government to advance the developmental aspirations of Rivers State in particular and our nation in general”, the governor wrote.

Governor Wike said in view of the foregoing, it became apposite to request for a Presidential visit, so that the President would see for himself what have been accomplished with the money refunded the state.

It would be recalled that the federal government had promised to refund the sum of N78.9 billion to the Rivers State government when the Minister of State for Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, who led the Federal Executive Council verification team to accompany Governor Nyesom Wike on a tour of federal road projects executed by the administration, a fortnight ago.

Nwajiuba had assured that President Muhammadu Buhari would abide by set rules of verification of federal road projects executed by the state government.
