Group Pats Opobo Women On Back, Urges More Action
A group of Alapu, elders, professionals and opinion molders in Opobo kingdom have commended the Waribo Iruanya War Canoe House’s fraction of Opobo Women Welfare Association (OWWA) over their response in the collection of permanent voters card (PVC).
Under the aegis of Opobo Elder Statesmen For Sim, the group took their PVC collection sensitization campaign to Waribo Iruanya War Canoe House on Thursday and drummed the need for effective women participation in the political process.
Addressing the women, Chairman of the Opobo Elder Statesmen 4 Sim, Alabo Edwin Cockeye Brown said the sensitization campaign which began in Opobo a few weeks ago had been productive as many Opobians are said to be responding to the call.
Alabo Edwin Cockeye Brown disclosed that the PVC collection campaign was not limited to visiting the women as the group have also individually, embarked on door to door sensitization as well as visiting house meetings of various war canoe houses.
“We are not taking chances. The candidature of our son, Amaopusenibo Siminialayi Fubara is a call to action, not only to his party, PDP, but to every patriotic Opobo son and daughter.
“Sim is an open check given to us and that’s why we won’t rest on our oars until that dream metamorphoses to reality’, said the group’s Chairman who is the Chief of Cockeye Brown War Canoe House in Kalaomuso Polo.
Similarly, Vice Chairman of the group, Alabo Godwin Bupo said their objective was primarily geared towards educating people at the grassroots on the political process.
“Considering the fact that we now have an opportunity which is from God that doesn’t come all the time. So, as elder Statesmen, we must let you know that God has freely gifted us what others are desiring to have, and we must not take it for granted”, he said.
Also speaking, the group’s Director of Operations, Warisenibo (Dr) Donald Brown said the exercise was in keeping with the promise to sustain the campaign in Opobo kingdom till all remaining PVCs are collected from the INEC office in Opobo town.
“The women of Iruanya War Canoe House must as a matter of necessity join the rest and collect their PVC, secure them and get ready to come out to vote when the time comes”, he said.
He added that the Opobo Elder Statesmen 4 Sim would wrap up the PVC collection sensitization campaign with a visit to Saturday Jaja Compound on Thursday.
Earlier in her welcome address, the President of Opobo Women Welfare Association (OWWA), Amaopu Orubo Felicia Steven People said their meetings are rotated monthly around the 14 Polos in Opobo, adding that prayers are being intensified to make Sim Fubara governor come 2023.
She thanked the Opobo Elder Statesmen For Sim for their support and the good job of sensitizing Opobians on participating in the political process, pledging their collaboration in that regard.
Speaking on the sidelines, Alabo Captain Justus Uranta said convening the women meeting was timely as it provided the right platform to address their civic obligations.
He also enjoined other Opobians to compliment to women by going to collect their PVCs.
