Aduwa Usman: Court Adjourns To January 18 For Further Trial

A Port-Harcourt Magistrate Court has adjourned until Tuesday, January 18 the trial of a suspect facing charges of stealing and had pleaded not guilty.

The 49-year-old suspect Aduwa Usman is accused of stealing a set of tanker cupplers and faces two counts.

The suspect who was granted bail had pleaded not guilty when the charges were read.

He was arraigned on December 14 before Chief Magistrate Betty Sunny-Hart of Magistrate Court 17 and the case was adjourned to 11, 14, and 18 January 2022 for further trial.

One of the counts said: “That you Aduwa Usman ‘m’ and others now at large on the 2nd day of December 2021 at Iriebe, Port-Harcourt in the Port-Harcourt Magisterial District did conspire amongst yourselves to commit felony to wit: stealing and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 516 (A) of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Vol II, Laws of Rivers State of Nigeria, 1999”.

The other count said: “That you Aduwa Usman ‘m’ and others now at large on the same date and place in the aforesaid Magisterial District did steal one set of tanker cupplers valued fifty thousand naira (N50,000.00) only, property of one Daniel Ogbu ‘m’ and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 390 (9) of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Vol II, Laws of Rivers State of Nigeria, 1999”.

With charge number PMC/1911c/2021 the case is between the Commissioner of Police in Rivers State and the defendant.

The prosecuting officer, Insp Wilson Isaiah, represented the state Police Command at the trial.

However on Friday, January 14, the court did not hear the case but had adjourned to the subsisting date on which there would be further hearing of the case.
