The bill seeking to prohibit street trading,Illegal markets and motor parks has been passed into law by the state Legislature.

Speaker, Rt. Hon. Ikuinyi Owaji Ibani while passing the bill noted that the  law which is seeking to sanitize the state would require collaboration among agencies and ministries especially Ministry of Urban Development and Transport for effective implementation.

He said that the law is not restricted to street trading, illegal markets and motor parks but also addresses the beautification of the state, adding that the relevant agencies should be able to be alive to their respective roles.

Earlier, during debate, Hon. Christian Ahiakwo submitted that there should be an institution properly structured with administrative heads so that subsequently the institution could be appropriated for.

While the leader, Hon. Martin Amaewhule, and Abinye Blessing Pepple maintained that there was no need to create a new institution for the enforcement of the law and suggested that the ministry of Transport be given the authority to oversee the enforcement team.

In their divergent views, Hons. Evans Bipi and Sam Ogeh opined that the enforcement of the law should be under the purview of  Ministry of Urban Development especially since the law is meant to bring sanity across the 23 Local Government Areas of the state.
