Gunmen suspected to be cultists shot two persons dead over the weekend along Ubeta Owube Road in Ahoada West Local Government Area of Rivers.
According to reports, Elemechi Ogbogu, the driver of the vehicle and Confidence Chalikobi, were on their way to Owube community in the LGA when the gunmen intercepted the duo and shot them dead.
In a telephone chat with our reporter, Major Elleh, a stakeholder in the area said he got information that two men were shot dead in Owube community, a neigbouring community to his own community .
Elleh said Mr Ogbogu bought some building materials for repair of his father’s house and he, alongside the driver were gunned down by the hoodlums while conveying the materials to his community.
Mr Elleh further called on stakeholders and the Council Chairman to give necessary support to the new Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and other security agencies in the area to flush out criminals.
Recall that the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Emeka Nwonyi few days upon assumption of office redeployed Divisional Police Officers of Akinima Police Division and Ahoada Police Division in Ahoada West and East LGAs respectively and brought in two new DPOs, few days after assumption of office, a strategy that has reduced the activities of cultists and other criminal elements in the area.
The spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, SP Grace Iringe Koko confirmed the incident.
